New Immigrants and Refugee Youth Day Camps

The youth are exposed to a number of new experiences, and opportunities, while being supported in their learning. Of perhaps equal importance, we are building resiliency in potentially vulnerable youth as they make essential friendships, connect with others who have similar experiences, become more familiar with their schools and the Alberta school system, and get to know Edmonton better.

As they participate in the project activities, the youth participants are supported by youth mentors through the role of Youth Facilitators. The mentoring relationships with the Youth Facilitators have been a social and emotional support, as well as a bridge between school staff and community resources. Over the last three 2008-10, this project saw AHC working with three Edmonton Public high schools in 2008, five Edmonton Public/Catholic high schools in 2009, and 10 Public, Catholic, and Francophone high schools in 2010.
