Position: Youth Facilitators, New Immigrant and Refugee Youth
Day Camps Program
Terms: Part time - October 2009- March 31, 2010 (5hrs/week)

Summary:
The “New Immigrant and Refugee Youth Winter Program” is a unique program
offered in partnership with local Edmonton high schools. New immigrant and
refugee youth will take part in diverse activities such as visual and
performing arts, field trips, career exploration, life skills, and
outdoor/wilderness activities, while also practicing their English language
skills!
Major Responsibilities
- Youth Facilitators will be assigned to a school location and they will
work with new immigrant and refugee youth participants during the winter
program.
- Youth Facilitators will work with teachers at school locations, Site
Coordinator and Project Coordinator.

Key duties include:
- Participating in a 10 hour leadership training session on how to
lead youth activities;
- Helping teachers and/or Site Coordinator prepare and provide
orientation about the program;
- Requesting field trips and ensuring resources are ready for trips;
providing logistical support to site coordinators and teachers; setting
up rooms for workshops and various sessions;
- Supporting teachers/facilitators by engaging with individual youth
to support them during in-class and out door activities; administering
surveys/evaluations during and after the program;
- And assisting with final program reporting and documentation.
Responsibilities will be distributed between the two assistants
associated with each school location and according to the support need
at each school.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of second year in High School;
- Experience working with youth (school work with peers will be
considered);
- Experience/knowledge of issues facing immigrants and refugees;
strong communication and relationship-building skills;
- Ability to provide mentorship/role modeling to new immigrant and
refugee youth;
- Flexible;
- Ability/willingness to be a team player and work within a team
environment.
NOTE: Criminal Record Check is required
Child Welfare Intervention Record Check required for
successful applicants over 18.
