Ethno-cultural Organizational Capacity-Building Support

This project was developed in collaboration with the Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, and the Association for Multicultural Coalition, and with the support of the Community Development Branch of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit. It is delivering participatory and experiential organizational capacity building learning opportunities to members of emerging ethno-cultural groups. The intention is to increase the basic organizational capacity of emerging ethno-cultural groups, organizations and societies so they can better serve members of their communities through being more broadly and strongly connected to mainstream people, institutions, processes and resources.
The capacity building supports include:

  • A set of 15 group-based learning opportunities delivered to leaders of emerging ethno-cultural groups
  • Ongoing support over the year as participants apply and adopt the learning in their own community work

It is expectated that leaders from participating emerging ethno-cultural communities will have increased knowledge and skills in the development of governance structures, strategic planning, project management, financial management, evaluation and reporting. Additionally, it is expected that these communities will have greater connections amongst themselves and the Edmonton community as a whole.
