Edmonton Senior Dialogue: A Collective Action to make a Difference

This project provided Edmonton immigrant seniors coming from different countries a monthly meeting and dialogue of what they can do together to cope with various barriers they are facing in Edmonton and what they can do to make a difference of their community. They shared their experiences, knowledge, and diverse ethno-culture and make it as resources to young generation and mainstream society. Through the senior dialogue the following happened:

  • Promotion of senior participation and inclusion in community activities which help them to cope with social isolation.
  • Sharing of senior experiences and stories of settlement and integration to help each others.
  • Exploration of opportunities to contribute their experiences and knowledge to help the young generation
  • Building up leadership skills and capacity through planning of their own activities
  • Feeling proud of themselves through volunteering and playing a positive role in their community.
